Author Dale Carnegie (1888–1955) was a self-improvement guru long before the days of life coaches, podcast hosts, and TikTok. While he described himself as a “simple country boy” from Missouri, he wrote what basically became the grandfather of all people-skills books in 1936: How to Win Friends and Influence People.

Despite this book being nearly 90 years old, there are some pretty solid ideas in here you might want to leverage if your target audience happens to hang out on LinkedIn.

Let me explain –

Buried about halfway through the book, Carnegie sums up a number of his wisdoms in the following list:

6 Ways to Make People Like You:

  1. Become genuinely interested in other people.
  2. Smile.
  3. Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
  4. Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
  5. Talk in terms of other people’s interests.
  6. Make the other person feel important — and do it sincerely.

Why does this matter to you if you’re looking for B2B clients?
