Getting fired was the best thing that ever happened to me (twice)
I’ve been fired twice 😅
Once for falling asleep while mopping floors overnight at a seniors home — my first job in university
The second time, I was working as a recruitment specialist during the pandemic
Hiring froze and my role was cut — while I was expecting my first child
Both moments hit hard
Both changed my life
Here are 3 things I learned from getting fired 👇
1. My job wasn’t my identity
When I got fired the second time — mid-pandemic, baby on the way — it hit me different
I felt embarrassed, like I’d failed
So much of how I saw myself was wrapped up in that job title
It was in my email signature, LinkedIn bio, and every intro I gave
And then — just like that — it was gone
I remember thinking, “If this can be taken so easily…maybe it was never really mine”
That was the moment I stopped job hunting and started building
That’s how OutreachGenius — my software company — was born
